Reflection During Advanced Photography we will be analyzing and writing about current photography or photography projects that either we have done, or have been done by a photographer working in the field.
DIRECTIONS - Each photo reflection assignment will involve looking at a different photo or project, make sure you pay attention so you know what you need to write about. Write about the photo in WORD or create a google doc. Print out and turn in to the class bin when you are finished. You should cover the information listed below in your paragraph.
Describe the photograph in multiple PARAGRAPHS for a total of 15 sentences or more…
Paragraph 1 1) What was your initial idea when you began this assignment? Describe how your images communicate this idea. Be specific, refer back to your project when answering this question, give examples.
2) When I look at this/these photo(s), it makes me think of... Describe your process, how did you execute. Did you execute successfully? If so, how, explain, if not, why, what happened?
Paragraph 2 3) How is the technical quality? Let’s start here before we get to the more subjective issues of composition and emotion. · In focus? (or if not, was that intended?) · Exposure: Is it too light or dark? Are there blown out or underexposed areas? · Use of depth of field to control the viewer’s eye. · Use of contrast? Too muddy or too much contrast. · How was lighting handled? · How do the colors look?
Paragraph 3 4) How’s the composition? · How are the objects arranged within the Frame? · What should and shouldn't be in the frame? · Where is your eye drawn to? . What are the dominant elements and principles in the composition? . What rule(s) of composition are present?
Paragraph 4 5) How is the emotional appeal? · What emotion do you feel when you look at the photo? Or lack of? · Did the photographer connect with his subjects or do they look tense, or posed? · Does the photograph tell a story, or part of one? (It could be as simple as, “here are my kids who I adore” or “here’s my dog catching a frisbee.” Or a very deep one such as, “this is what poverty looks like, right in my hometown.”)
